Volunteer Application

You can help New Leaf make a positive difference in our community. Volunteering is an enriching experience in so many ways. When you become part of our team, you have an opportunity to:
  • Support a cause you truly believe in
  • Apply your current skills and gain some new ones
  • Meet new people, make new friends and develop professional contacts
  • Feel the personal satisfaction of helping others
  • Make a difference in your own community
New Leaf provides volunteering opportunities in three broad categories:

Outreach to Elders Services (formerly GLOE)

Our Outreach to Elders services build community, promote independent living and improve the qualify of life of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender seniors. This program provides a range of activities and services for seniors.

Volunteers may:
• Become a “Friendly Visitor” who provides regular one-on-one visits to homebound or isolated LGBT elders.
• Serve meals at any of our our bi-monthly lunches for LGBT elders in the San Francisco Tenderloin district.
• Assist with our monthly social events for LGBT residents of Laguna Honda Hospital (a skilled nursing facility for the elderly).
• Help with one-time special projects, such as helping seniors pack to move, complete official forms, run errands, provide transportation or do household chores.
• Help with mailings or other administrative tasks, on a one-time or an ongoing basis.

Development

Our Development Department raises money to pay for New Leaf’s services to the community. Volunteers may help with special events, stuffing envelopes, selling raffle tickets, working on a silent auction, or assisting with other fundraising functions.

Clinical Internship

New Leaf has a well-respected clinical internship program for people pursuing an advanced counseling degree, for example: Masters in Social Work (MSW), Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), or a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology.

Currently New Leaf has approximately 55 employees including 40 clinicians. We are also assisted by 35 clinicians who are in private practice but volunteer their services part-time at New Leaf.

We are proud of our clinical training program for the next generation of therapists for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. Generally we train and supervise approximately 18 to 20 clinical interns each year.
